Metal & Components
In many crucial areas aeronautics, the space industry precision in the
composition of metals and alloys is of the utmost importance. A well
designed material will resist corrosion, stress concentration, metal
fatigue, creep and environmental stress fracture. A metal that is not
precisely designed to achieve criteria specified by the mechanical
engineer and impure metal can be a very serious safety hazard indeed.
Shiva analytical has the technical capability to test metals at the
crystalline level. We work on the chemical composition of the metal or
alloy, analyzing for both major elements. We accomplish this by
traditional wet chemical techniques such as gravimetry and titrimetry.
We conduct trace analyses, testing for metals and impurities at ppm and
ppb levels which have a crucial impact on performance. Such analyses
are carried out by glow discharge mass spectrometry (GDMS) and
inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. We also accurately
investigate the impact of heat treatment and cooling rates on the micro
structure of small crystals in metallic materials. We have the capacity
to conduct both wet gravimetric and volumetric methods of testing.
Our wide exposure to components and our multi disciplinary technical
expertise helps us to handle complicated field failures and enables us
to preempt such failures.
In terms of equipment and techniques, Shiva can evaluate stain, deposit
and corrosion products by SEM-EDAX techniques. We evaluate components
for their rust preventive characteristics and resistance to temperature
and humidity by using salt spraying, dry heat and the humidity chamber.
An important aspect of our work in this field is undertaking product development through reverse engineering.
